DAY6 is a South Korean four-member rock band that debuted in 2015 under JYP Entertainment.
In Korea, where it’s often said that “bands rarely succeed,” DAY6 has become a beloved boy band among the youth.The road to their debut was long. They were told that they could only debut with songs that they wrote and composed themselves, and they also needed approval from Park Jin-young, the CEO of JYP and a renowned producer.

1. Sungjin

Sungjin has loved singing since childhood. He was once praised by a relative who told him, “You’re good at singing; you should become a singer,” which inspired him to pursue music.
Although initially opposed by his family, he secretly entered a music competition and won the grand prize. This success helped his family understand and support his dream.
He also won a grand prize in high school and was invited to join JYP Entertainment as a trainee.
Sungjin plays both electric and acoustic guitar, though he originally played a percussion instrument called the cajón. When Dowoon joined as a drummer, Sungjin switched to guitar. At first, he disliked it because it hurt his hands, but he grew attached and even named his guitar “Atom.”
2. Young K

After graduating from elementary school, Young K moved to Toronto, Canada, with his family. However, after passing JYP’s audition, he returned to Korea.
Fluent in English, he often spoke with former member Jae in English.
During his trainee days, he worked as a backup dancer but always loved singing. He also has a talent for songwriting and has written raps and composed for other artists.
Initially self-taught in guitar, he switched to bass when Jae became the guitarist.
3. Wonpil

Growing up with parents who ran a piano school, Wonpil began learning piano early. He also loved singing and participated in a church choir.
He entered JYP through an audition and initially joined the dance team before transitioning to the band unit.
Though his first impression is cool and quiet, he’s actually kind and finds it hard to turn people down.
He’s known for his playful side, enjoying teasing others, and is very expressive with his emotions—sometimes crying at fan events. Many fans are drawn to the contrast between his appearance and personality.
4. Dowoon

The youngest member of DAY6, Dowoon was the last to join the group.
He auditioned for the company after a professor informed him of the opportunity and passed as a drummer. He didn’t receive much training in dance or vocals, with only about four months of trainee experience.
Before debuting, he aimed to become a drum instructor. He is known for his dedication, always ready to take notes during lessons.
He’s also a fan of Japanese anime, especially “Howl’s Moving Castle.”
